The Training and Technical Assistance Center (T/TAC) at the College of William and Mary welcomes you to your new position as a special educator!
T/TAC’s quarterly newsletter, Link Lines, is a resource for educators with articles on effective and innovative teaching practices. We have created a special edition of the newsletter to support your new beginning and to help you prepare for the upcoming school year. This issue includes tips for starting the school year and links to useful information on classroom management, parent communication, and instructional strategies that are effective for students with disabilities. We also highlight the multiple Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) resources that will help you stay current on the latest news and instructional resources from the department.
The VDOE has published two comprehensive guides for new teachers. Stepping Stones to Success provides information and practical advice on topics including building relationships with students, engaging families, and preparing for observations. Stepping Stones to Success II focuses on the importance of collaboration in meeting the needs of all students. Both of these resources can be found on the VDOE website under New and Beginning Teacher Resources.
Listed below are additional resources that will help build your toolkit with the most effective instructional practices and classroom management strategies. Additionally, you will find resources for engaging families and colleagues in providing your students with the greatest opportunities for success.
