Every new school year brings the opportunity to reflect and look forward. If organization, data collection, and designing specialized instruction for your students with disabilities are a challenge for you, search no more. We have two resources that will help in all these areas.
The first is a matrix for IEP Planning/Recording for an Inclusive Classroom (see Figure 1).
Figure 1. Matrix for IEP planning/recording for an inclusive classroom.
Adapted from Janney and Snell, 2013; Littleton (2017); and Stowe (2015).
For step-by-step directions on how to use the matrix for IEP Planning/Recording for an Inclusive Classroom, click on the Power Tools slide below. We will show you how this one document will take you from the beginning of the year, through weekly co-planning for SDI, to progress monitoring and progress reporting.
Before watching the video, download a copy of the matrix to use as a notetaker. It is a Word document, so it will download, rather than open, in your browser.

Figure 2 includes an example of a completed matrix to fully exemplify its uses.

Strategies for Specially Designed Instruction
The second tool is a resource guide for specially designed instruction (SDI), Strategies for Specially Designed Instruction, which offers SDI examples for math, behavior, reading, and writing. We briefly explain how to use the Strategies for Specially Designed Instruction in developing lesson plans for your students with disabilities.
